Our Mission and Who We Serve

The residency serves a region known as the Inland Empire or Inland Southern California, which is comprised of both San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the first and fourth largest counties in the state.

Within this region

  • 53% of the population is of Hispanic or Latino origin.
  • Almost 50% of the population relies on government assistance for medical care.
    • 40% of the population receives Medi-Cal (California’s version of Medicaid),
    • 8% are uninsured,
  • There are 20% less physicians per patient than the national average.
  • The rate of death from hypertensive heart disease is ~ 53% higher than the state average
  • The death rate from diabetes-related complications ~30% higher than the state average

By training new physicians in the Inland Southern California, we hope to participate in promoting health and wellness in this community by helping to address these and other care gaps.  We are grateful and humbled to serve and learn from the patients in our region.
