Rajesh "Robby" Gulati, MD

The UC Riverside School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine’s mission includes serving the underserved in the Inland Empire, educating the next generation of physicians and research to generate new knowledge.

UCR School of Medicine is uniquely a community based medical school and IM department collaborates very closely with community partners, both hospital and physician partners, in fulfilling these missions. We have strong partnerships with St. Bernardine Medical Center, Riverside University Health System, Kaiser-Permanente Riverside, Riverside Community Hospital, Eisenhower Medical Center, Loma Linda VA Medical Center and over 600 community physicians who are committed these important missions, all in the interest of improving the healthcare in the Inland Empire.

In the clinical front, we provide clinical services through our partners and our own employed faculty both in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties – many of the areas are the most underserved with the lowest household income in the state. Our physicians provide services in primary care, hospitalist medicine, endocrinology, diabetic care, rheumatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, gastroenterology etc at most of these affiliates and at UCR outpatient clinic at Citrus Tower in Riverside. The clinical services are expanding with the goal of providing services which are lacking in Inland Empire.

On the educational front, the IM department is committed to supporting both undergraduate and graduate medical education. Most of the faculty teach the undergraduates all through the four years of medical school. The current UCR sponsored GME programs include residency in internal medicine, fellowship in cardiovascular medicine, fellowship in gastrointestinal diseases, fellowship in critical care, and fellowship in interventional cardiology. Many additional fellowships and residencies are in development. In addition, the department also takes pride in educating the community as well as community partners. The IM department cosponsors an annual update and board review course and cardiology update.

Research in order to create new knowledge is a priority of IM department. These encompass clinical observations, outcome research, quality improvement, educational research, cardiovascular, GI, translational research etc. The research partners include all clinical sites as well as department of of biomedical sciences as well as departments in other schools such as bioengineering, electrical engineering, statistics, mathematics etc.

If I can answer any questions for you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
